MicroFoundry, Inc. Awarded the Innovation Showcase Program

The MicroFluidics AcceleratorTM Brings Rapid Technology Advancement to Microfluidics World Wide

September 2, 2008, Evergreen, CO – The Novum Institute’s Innovation Showcase Program was awarded to Micro Foundry, Inc. for its highly innovative MicroFluidics AcceleratorTM micro-machining technology in the emerging field of microfluidics.

Thanks to the MicroFluidics AcceleratorTM it is now possible to radically miniaturize and automate biological and chemical laboratories. This technology system allows:
  • New chemicals and pharmaceuticals to be created faster, more efficiently, and with less overhead;
  • Biohazard detection to be made much more portable and useful in detecting harmful agents far in advance of human exposure;
  • Discovery of the human body and its biological interactions to be advanced through micro-scaled automation and detection of body fluid reactions;
  • Portable machines to bring much more laboratory analysis directly to patients, with rapid and accurate results.
Microfluidic devices, also known as Laboratories-On-Chips, use small channels machined in chemical and biological resistive materials to control and manipulate micro amounts of liquids for laboratory purposes. These channels can be used to separate, combine, detect, mix, load, formulate, direct, or store fluids similar to the way electricity flows in electronic circuits.

The Novum Institute believes that Micro Foundry’s innovative MicroFluidics AcceleratorTMbreakthrough will have a great impact to the world.
  • Medical Diagnostics and Point-Of-Care: Many diagnostic functions, including blood analysis, AIDS detection, cardiac risk assessment, and gene research are now being done on portable machines allowing efficient, accurate, inexpensive, rapid diagnosis and care for patients. Many researchers are also utilizing this breakthrough technology to develop other rapid diagnosis and cures for diseases such as cancer.
